Higa sighed, looking out the window of the clunky train at the large city. Her brilliant green-blue eyes looked back at her from the dirty glass. She closed her eyes and leaned back into her seat, allowing the noises of the train to wash over her. People, murmuring, snoring, and children playing. Adults, eating. Train attendees asking various people if they need anything.
"Higa?"
A moderately deep voice snapped her back into awareness. She looked up to see a boy of about 17 years of age smiling down at her, with golden brown hair and liquid brown eyes standing next to the seat. She smiled.
"Khan. I thought that you went to ask an attendant about dinner?" She looked at him, curious. Khan sat next to her, still smiling. "I did. They're getting it now." "That was fast."
Khan's smile widened slightly. "The train attendants are everywhere, so I really didn't have to work hard to find one." Higa nodded and glanced out the window again. Khan noticed the stiffness of her posture, and said gently, "It's going to be fine, Higa. We'll find this guy and get him on our side, then go home. No need to stress."
Higa and Khan where on a mission for their boss at the place they worked at. They were Citizen Soldiers, trained fighters to protect their community. Now they where looking for a guy named Asuke, who was a skilled blacksmith, and would be a good ally in the oncoming war.
Higa shook a loose strand of red-brown hair out of her eyes before continuing. "I know, Khan, but this guy has a reputation for being difficult. Angels aren't people to mess with."
"He's a Fallen Angel, Higa. If he was an angel then he'd have his wings.
Higa fell silent. She wondered what had happened to him to make the angels rip out his wings and cast him from Heaven.
An attendant broke through her thoughts by announcing dinner and handing her a tray. Khan grinned at her and they both started eating. Even though Khan had told her not to stress, she had a strange feeling that this mission boded ill for them both.
To be continued.
